New Moons and Sacred Calendar<\/h1>\n

The intent of this page is to inform the reader of the probable timing of the Sacred Calendar during the next six to eighteen months. The reader is advised that the method used is the Karaite method of visible sighting of the first waxing crescent of the sighted moon from Israel. The reader is also advised that this method of determining Sacred Time is the best comprehended by the website owner, Stephen W. Kraner. But, please be advised, I, Stephen W. Kraner, have concern regarding the incongruence of the Karaite method and the supposed \u201cfull moon\u201d mentioned in Psalm 81:3. The 15th of the month, according to the Karaite method is approximately one and a half days past \u201cfull moon\u201d phase.<\/div>\n

\"Moon<\/center><\/p>\n

The above diagram, \u201cHow the Moon Works – Phases of the Moon,\u201d uses the \u201castronomical new moon.\u201d The \u201castronomical new moon\u201d is called the \u201cmolad.\u201d The \u201cmolad\u201d or, \u201castronomical new moon,\u201d is the dark, unseen moon. It is dark because it is in the \u201cshadowed\u201d phase from the light of the sun. The Karaite new moon is the first visible sliver of the waxing crescent, as seen from Israel. The reader is encouraged to read the explanation of the new moon at the website for Karaite Korner:

The following dates for the next six to eighteen new moons and for the Sacred Year, with the proposed, calculated, timing of the Biblical Feasts. The following tables are copied from http:\/\/www.karaite-korner.org\/holiday_dates.shtml<\/a>. Because the times are calculated and because the Bible requires the watched, guarding of the first and seventh new moons, the reader is advised that there can be as much as a three day difference between the \u201cmolad\u201d and the sighting of the first visible crescent.<\/p>\n
